Learn How To Become a Literacy Tutor

Information Session: May 22, 2026 | 6:30 – 7:30 PM

If you’re here, you likely care deeply about supporting young learners. You may be passionate about education, or you know a child who struggles with literacy and see firsthand how it impacts their daily life.

Join us for an in-person Information Session to learn how you can make a meaningful difference as a literacy tutor using the Orton-Gillingham approach—a scientifically proven method that benefits all learners and is especially critical for children with dyslexia.

About the Tutor Training Program

Our tutor training program is offered approximately once per year and includes:

  • 9 sessions (5 hours each), typically held on Saturdays
  • 4–5 in-person sessions annually
  • Small, interactive learning groups
  • All materials provided

After completing 15 hours of training, participants begin a hands-on practicum:

  • Plan and deliver in-person lessons
  • Work with a Learning Centre child
  • Commit to 1 hour, twice per week during a regular school term

This practicum is where your learning truly comes to life. You’ll be supported every step of the way by:

  • Your Trainer
  • Senior Mentors at the Learning Centre
  • Centre resources
  • A network of fellow trainees

Who Can Apply?

You do not need to be a teacher or have an education degree. Our tutors come from diverse professional backgrounds.

What matters most is:

  • A willingness to learn
  • A commitment to helping children
  • A passion for teaching

There is no cost for the training. However, we do require a strong commitment to both learning the material and applying it in practice.

Certification Opportunity

Participants who wish to pursue certification through the Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation of Canada can follow a structured set of milestones outlined in the program.
